Prospect of data distribution by Thailand Remote Sensing Center

Abstract
With the experience in remote sensing satellite data reception, production and distribution for more than 10 years, and regarded as the regional remote sensing center of Southeast Asia, Thailand Remote Sensing Center has gradually upgraded its facilities to catch up with the state-of-the-art technology for earth observation. In early 1993, TRSC completed the ERS-1 SAR data reception system and in 1994, the Landsat-6 processing system was installed with capabilities in handling new format of Landsat-5 TM products. It can be expected that the prospects of TRSC data distribution will be greatly enhanced in the near future with the reception of IRS-C data which would help to met the increasing needs of the users.

Established since 1982, the ground receiving station of Thailand Remote Sensing Center (TRSC) has served the users world wide with satellite imagery for than a decade. Due to the fact that satellite remote sensing technology is developing rapidly, TRSC ahs thereof upgraded its facilities to expand the capacity in receiving current multi-sensored data from various satellite namely: TM of Landsat, PLA/MLA of SPOT, MESSR/VTIR of MOS, SAR of ERS-1, SAR/OPS of JERS-1, AVHRR of NOAA-11 and NOAA-12.

This year in 1994, the installation of Image Processing Systems was completed. TRSC is now capable of generating new formats of Landsat-5 TM imagery, raw and PRI products of ERS-1 SAR data, including OPS and SAR data of JERS-1.

With the new image processing system originally planned for generating LANDSAT-6 data, the geo-referenced data are now made available, adding to a number of the existing standard products. Definition of the image processing levels is as follows:

Level 0   Uncorrected. Radio metrically and geometrically raw. Detector offsets applied.

Level 1   Radio metrically corrected. Detector offsets applied.

Level 2   Radiometrically corrected. Across track geometric correction tables appended.

Level 3   Radiometrically raw. Across-track geometric corrections applied.

Level 4   Radiometrically corrected. Across track geometric correction applied.

Geo-referenced

Level 5   Radiometrically and geometrically corrected. Two dimensional resampling to a map project. No GCPs.

Level 6   Radiometrically and geometrically corrected. Two dimensional resamping to a map project GCPs.

Level 7   Radiometrically and geometrically corrected. Two dimensional resampling to a map project. GCPs Digital terrain model.

Geocoded

Level 8   Radiometrically and geometrically corrected. Two dimensional resampling. Geocoded (rotate and aligned to a map projection). No CGPs. No digital terrain model.

Level 9   Radiometrically and geometrically corrected. Two dimensional resampling. Geocoded (Rotated and aligned a map projection). GCPS No digital terrain model.

Level 10   Radiometrically and geometrically corrected. Two-dimensional resampling. Geocoded (rotate and aligned to a map projection). GCPs. Digital terrain model.

Georeferenced products are now available for full-scene (184km. x 172km.) and quadrant 94km.x88km.) formats. Product standard medium can be either CCT, EXABYTE or Photographic print/film.

ERS-1SAR
ERS-1 SAR (Synthetic Aperture Rader) data are available as raw and PRI. The Precision Image (PRI) is system corrected data. One scene covers as area of 100 km. x 102.5 km.

Product standard medium: CCT or EXABYTE.

JERS-1OPS/SAR
As referred to the table on the image processing levels mentioned earlier, OPS (Optical Sensor) data of JERS-1 are generated in three different lelels: level 1 (bulk), level 5 (georeferenced) and level 8 (geocoded).

Future Plan
Thailand Remote Sensing Centre plans to cooperate with the Indian Government in adding the data obtained from the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) Satellite to our standard products. Through this cooperative effort, it is expected that the prospect of TRSC data distribution will be enhanced in the near future which will help to meet the increasing needs of the users in the region.
