Minutes of the Second Meeting General Conference of the Asian Association on Remote Sensing

Hanoi, Vietnam, 2005

The second meeting of the General Conference was held on Thursday, 10th November 2005, in the Melia Hotel from 1730 hrs. to 1850 hrs. Prof. Shunji Murai opened the meeting. It was presided by Dr. Le. Quy Thuc, President, Vietnam Association of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing.

Minutes of the 24th Annual General Conference of the Asian Association on Remote Sensing

Chiang Mai , Thailand, 2004

The first meeting of the association was held at the Sheraton Hotel Chiang Mai, Thailand, on the 23rd December, 2004, and commenced at 8.10 pm.

Extracts from the 18th General Conference

Manila, Philippines,1998

The General Conference was held on 17th and 18th November 1998 in Manila during the 19th ACRS. Mr. Virgilio S.Santos of NAMRIA, Philippines presided.

The General Secretary presented the annual report and the financial report for the year, which were both endorsed by the members.

Membership application of Uzbekistan was again withheld. It was agreed that the Uzbekistan will be requested to send participants to the next ACRS where they would attend the AARS General Conference and present their case for acceptance.

Extracts from the 17th General Conference

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-1997

The General Conference was held on 20 and 21 October 1997 in Kuala Lumpur during the 18th ACRS. Mr. Nik Nasruddin Mahmood, Director , Malaysian Centre for Remote Sensing presided.

Two membership applications from Republic of Uzbekistan and Brunei Dar-
ussalam were considered . The membership of Brunei was approved. However, the membership of Uzbekistan would wait till further information to be requested by the General Secretary is received .

Extracts from the 16th General Conference

Colombo, Sri Lanka, 1996

The General Conference was held on 5 & 6 November 1996 during the 17th ACRS at Colombo. The sessions were presided over by Mr. M. P. Salgado, Surveyor General of Sri Lanka. This was attended by participants from Australia, Bangladesh, China, China Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Viet Nam, Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Kazakstan, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, UNESCAP, ISPRS and ESTO of Japan.

Extracts from the 15th General Conference

Nakhon Ratchashima, Thailand 1995

The General Conference was held during the 16th ACRS at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Professor Shunji Murai, General Secretary of the AARS presided in the absence of the immediate past president. As usual the General Secretary presented the annual report and financial report.

There were three applications for new membership. These were from Laos People's Democratic Republic, China Taipei and Jordan. It was recognized that the Article 6: Membership, in the Statute of AARS, should be amended to consider membership under special criteria. Also Amendment to Article:7 was required to limit the number of participants at the General Conference and to enable to conduct the General conference during the absence of the Executive Chairman.

Extracts from the 14th General Conference

Bangalore, India, 1994

Two sessions of the General Conference were held on 18 and 21 November 1994 under the Chairmanship of Professor U.R.Rao. Countries participating in the General Conference were: Australia, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Canada, Jordan, Kuwait, Myanmar, and Netherlands.

Professor Shunji Murai presented the annual report and the financial report of AARS. A report on the Working Group on 1 Km Land Cover Data Base of Asia was presented by Dr. R. Tateishi, Chairman of that Working Group.

Extracts from the 13th General Conference

Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, 1993

The General Conference was held during the 14th ACRS at Tehran. Mr. Farshid Jahedi of the Iranian Remote Sensing Centre Presided. Australia, Bangladesh, China, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, Canada and Netherlands attended.

Election of Deputy General Secretary was added to the agenda of the meeting. The registration fee for the ACRS continued to be US$50.00, but it was suggested that the sustaining membership fee should be increased to US$500.00 from 1995.

Extracts from the 12th General Conference

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, 1992

The General Conference was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 8th and 9th October 1992.

Professor Murai, in his Geneal Secretary's report, stressed the need for the AARS to support China as the current host of the Commission VI of ISPRS (Chairman Professor Li Deren, 1992-1996) which deals with economics, professonal matters and education.

Extracts from the 11th General Conference

Singapore, 1991

The General Conference was held at the National University of Singapore 31st October and 4th November 1991. Dr. Suvit Vibulsresth of Thailand presided. The General conference was attended by Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand, Australia, Iran., Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, and UN ESCAP.

The General Conference considered the applications of New Zealand and Singapore as ordinary members and unanimously approved their admission. The General Conference also admitted Switzerland, represented through its Institute of Geodesy, as an Associate Member.

Extracts from the 10th General Conference

Guangzhou, China, 1990

The General Conference was held during the Eleventh ACRS at Guanzhou, China on 16 and 19 November 1990. The sessions were presided over by Professor Ma Janru.

The General Conference approved the proposal from France to become an associate member of AARS. Regarding the ordinary membership of Australia and New Zealand, who were currently associate members, Professor Bruce Forster proposed a modification of the Statutes of AARS. This modification was intended to allow Australia, New Zealand and other South Pacific countries to join the AARS as ordinary members, because those countries are in the very near Asian region and have close relationship with Asia.
